Escape from Rabaul

Follow the footsteps of Australians as they attempted to escape the invading Japanese forces during WW2. Visit historical sites, the Duke of York Islands, explore an active volcano and Japanese war tunnels, take a 4 day remote jungle trek through the Baining Mountains and experience the rarely seen Baining Fire Dance! This 11 day all inclusive journey operates from February to October.

Get a taste of Rabaul in this softer less physical journey. You'll still get to visit WW2 historical sites, explore the active Volcano and island hop through the Duke of York Islands. You can experience the culture of the islands through an overnight village stay, Duk Duk abd Fire Dance. This 8 day all inclusive journey operates from February to October.

Our 'Escape from Rabaul' Journey retraces the steps of Australian soldiers as they attempted to outrun the invading Japanese.

Baining Fire Dance

One of the more spectacular experiences you will witness in our Escape from Rabaul and Return to Rabaul journey's is the Baining Fire Dance.

This ancient practice is unique to the Baining Mountains region of East New Britain and involves an elaborate combination of costumes, masks, body paint, music, dance and of course fire. Read more >
